May 19, 2004: Epson’s new Expression 10000XL A3 flatbed scanner is designed for demanding graphic art and business users and combines 2400 dpi resolution with an optical density of 3.8 to produce high-resolution scans with an extended tonal gamut.
Priced at $6600 (including GST) it features an onboard ASIC chip that reduces the scanner’s dependence on the PC’s processor and RAM capacity, thereby optimising scanning times. The Expression 10000XL can scan documents up to A3 size and will scan two A4-sized documents side-by-side. It also offers film scanning capabilities and can handle a wide range of film formats including up to 48 frames of 35mm strip film, 30 framed 35mm slides, 6 frames of 6 x 18cm (max.) 120/220 format film, and 8 frames of 4×5 inch film. An extra blue-toned lamp is added to the scanner head to increase the scanning speed for negatives. The Expression 10000XL also features an autofocus system that automatically detects how far the object is from the glass and adjusts focus accordingly. Colour restoration and grain reduction functions are provided as part of Epson’s scan driver software. Additional software includes Photoshop Elements 2 and Silverfast Ai 6. Options include an A3 sized Transparency Unit (TPU), automatic document feeder and network image card. Full products specifications can be found at www.epson.com.au.
