October 15, 2010: Although there are as yet very few computers with USB 3 support, LaCie has joined the growing number of storage device manufacturers offering USB 3-enabled products.
The company has announced new Minimus USB 3.0 desktop drives and Rikiki USB 3.0 ultra-compact mobile storage drives. Both claim to be the smallest in their categories. The Minimus desktop drives are available in 1TB and 2TB capacities at RRPs of $149 and $249 respectively. Measuring 110.7 x 29.4 x 172.8 mm they weight only 850 grams and feature a recyclable, brushed aluminium case with improved heat dissipation characteristics.

The Rikiki mobile drives come in 500GB (RRP $129) and 1TB (RRP $209) capacities and weigh only 176 grams. They have a footprint of 75 x 118.5 mm, are only 13.4 mm thick and are powered through the USB cable. The sturdy brushed aluminium case is impact-resistant and fully recyclable.
