September 26, 2006: Kodak has unveiled a new high-zoom digicam, the EasyShare Z710 at this year’s Photokina trade show.
Featuring a 7.1-megapixel imager (5.76 x 4.29 mm in size) and Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon 10x optical zoom lens, the Z710 has a shutter speed range from eight to 1/1000 second and a 2.0-inch indoor/outdoor colour TFT display. A high-resolution (210,000 pixels) electronic viewfinder is also provided, along with 32 MB of internal memory plus an SD/MMC expansion slot. The Z710 supports TTL autofocusing and has three focusing modes: normal, macro and infinity. The macro mode covers distances from 12 to 70 cm with the wide setting and 1.2 to 2.1 metres for the tele position.
Three metering modes are supported and ISO settings range from 64 to 800. Exposure compensation of +/- 2.0 EV is available in 1/3 EV steps and a histogram display is available for checking exposure values. The built-in flash has a GN of 10.6 (m/ISO 100) and offers auto, fill, off and red-eye reduction modes. Auto, P, A, S and M shooting modes are provided, along with 17 scene presets. Five image sizes can be recorded and users can adjust image colour by selecting one of five colour modes: high colour, natural colour (default), low colour, sepia, black and white. In-camera sharpness adjustment is also provided.

Video clips can be recorded in QuickTime format with VGA resolution at 10.5 frames/second or with QVGA resolution at 20 frames/second. Custom settings include: quick view, capture frame grid, advanced digital zoom, print warning, sound theme, sound volume, mode description, auto power off, date & time, video out, orientation sensor, date stamp, video date display, language and format.
