June 1, 2005: Kodak will cease production of its only current DSLR cameras, the DCS Pro SLR/n and DCS Pro SLR/c.
An announcement sent to Kodak Professional dealers in Canada says that sales of both models will continue “until stock is depleted”. The company will continue to provide support – including firmware and Photodesk updates – for both models until 2008 but, after that, support will be discontinued. The company has stated that this doesn’t necessarily mean the end of Kodak DSLR cameras and says it will continue to develop both CCD and CMOS image sensors. This announcement will not impact on Kodak’s consumer digicam developments, an area in which the company is one of the world’s leaders.
