August 2003: Kodak has updated its B&W sheet film range with the addition of Professional Tri-X 320 film, which is available in Australia in 4×5-inch sheet size.
The new film is targeted at users of large format cameras who want the highest-quality black and white enlargements. Tri-X 320 film promises excellent tonal gradation and brilliant highlights and has a similar sensitometric curve, sharpness and granularity to the film it replaces. Processing times are slightly longer to improve process uniformity when using Kodak HC-110 Developer and other developers with short processing times.
A harder emulsion makes it less susceptible to scratching but the composition of the emulsion is more easily wetted to ensure processing uniformity. The matte on the emulsion side is a smaller and more uniform size to facilitate pencil retouching. The new film is easier to identity as each sheet has a latent image identification mark – “320TXP” – and a notch code that is visible before and after processing.
The new film is available in 50-sheet boxes. Detailed technical data on this film is available in a new Kodak publication – F-4017 – as well as at www.kodak.com/go/bwFilms.
