May 22, 2006: Kodak and Fujifilm will increase prices on their silver halide-based photosensitive material products in mid-2006. Both companies cite soaring costs of silver, oil and other raw materials plus the rapid digitalisation of photography as the reasons behind the price rises, which will affect consumer and professional silver halide-based photographic films and papers and processing chemistry. According to Kodak, specifics will vary on a product-by-product and market-by-market basis with most prices increasing between 4 percent and 10 percent, while Fujifilm expects the prices of main products to increase by 3% to 20%. This is Fujifilm’s first across-the-board price hike in more than 25 years. The Fujifilm price rises take effect June 2006 onward, while Kodak’s price rises are effective with orders shipped on or after 1 July. Specific details regarding affected products, effective dates and exact price increases will be decided based on local market conditions.
