Kelly Champion named AIPP SA’s pro photographer of the year

To be eligible for the overall winner the 2017 AIPP SA Epson Professional Photography Awards, photographers must first win a category. This is the second year running that Kelly had won the documentary category.

Innovation, content, creativity, technical excellence and impact are the key criteria when the images are assessed by the judging panels. This year the awards were peer-judged anonymously over two days by some of Australia’s most experienced photographers including James Simmons, Vicki Bell, Steve Scalone, Steve Lovegrove and Dean Mansbridge.

Kelly specialises in wedding, family and portrait photography. “I approach all three with a documentary style. I love to find humour in a situation and always try and view a scene differently.”

The state awards are a stepping stone to the Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs). State awards entrants must receive 80 points and above for at least two of their images to be eligible for the APPAs.

In 2015, the AIPP’s accreditation standards were awarded landmark certification from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), which will allow its members to benefit from the first official certification status for accredited professional photographers.
