Sydney photographer, Karl Grenet, has been named as the winner of the Australia National Award, part of the prestigious 2015 Sony World Photography Awards.

The winning image was taken in Mumbai, India, in November 2014 while Grenet was exploring the maze-like Mirza Ghalib Municipal Market in the Null Bazar area of Mumbai. The market is open 24 hours a day so vendors take every possible opportunity to rest between sales. Grenet, a documentary and street photographer is currently based in Northern Thailand. He has won a Sony a6000 and his image will be shown as part of the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset House, London from 24 April ““ 10 May.
Runners-up in the Australian competition were Mihai Florea and Ben McRae. The National Awards programme honours and rewards the best single image taken by a local photographer and spans the world from Argentina to Australia. It is open to photographers of all abilities.
