Queensland photographer, Kara Rosenlund, has been named as the winner of the 2003 Canon/AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year Awards.

 

May 2003: Queensland photographer, Kara Rosenlund, has been named as the winner of the 2003 Canon/AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year Awards.
Aged 21, Ms Rosenlund is the youngest winner of Australia’s most prestigious photography award. She also took out first place in the editorial photography category. Ms Rosenlund graduated with a Diploma of Photography in 2001 from the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE where she trained under Doug Spowart and Alison Ahlhaus. She was awarded the AIPP Student Photographer of the Year in her final year of study and has already had several photographs published in magazines.
As the overall winner, Ms Rosenlund received a Canon professional digital photographic kit valued at $20,000 at an awards dinner on 5 May, following the close of the Photo Imaging Council Australia (PICA) exhibition in Melbourne. Other category winners receiving awards this year included:

ø‚ · Jacqueline Ranken – 2003 Canon/AIPP Australian Landscape Photographer of the Year
ø‚ · Kara Rosenlund – 2003 Canon/AIPP Australian Editorial Photographer of the Year
ø‚ · Peter Rossi – 2003 Canon/AIPP Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year

The awards are open to all professional photographers in Australia and this is the second year of Canon’s three-year sponsorship commitment. The 2003 winning entries will be showcased in a national touring exhibition. The tour will commence with showings at the following centres:

ø‚ · Launceston: Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery, 6-29 June
ø‚ · Hobart: West Point Hotel Casino, 5-6 July
The 2003 Canon/AIPP Professional Photographer of the Year Awards book will also be produced featuring Kara Rosenlund’s photography and the Gold and Silver award winning entries from each category.
