: Ilford has announced the winners of its Schools’ Photographic Competition for Term 3 2003 and Tertiary Photography Competition for Semester 2 2003.
These competitions have been developed to promote and showcase students’ work and an image from the collection is chosen for the cover of the Ilford “Images’magazine, which goes to photography teachers in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions nationally, as well as photo resellers throughout the country. The Schools Photographic Competition was launched 15 years ago and has become something of an institution. . AnAustralia wide contest, it attracts nearly 2,000 entries per year, making it one of the largest photographic contests in Australia. Recently, the competition has been expanded to include the growing segment of digital photography, both in colour and black and white.
The Schools’ Competition runs over the first three out of four official school terms every calendar year, with the closing dates being the last day of term. The Tertiary competition periods are based on semesters. In any given calendar year, there are two tertiary competitions – Semester 1 and Semester 2.
Winners are awarded prizes for both monochrome and digital photography and an overall school winner is selected from each category, each term. Additionally, a final judging is held in November of each year to select the overall winner in each category from the term winners. Finally, the merit points are tallied in the Schools Competition to find the winner for the overall School award each term, culminating in an overall year award for which the school receives a plaque and an Ilford product voucher. Entry forms for this year’s competitions will be distributed to participating institutions and published in “Images” magazine.
