Hijacked III: Contemporary Photography from Australia & the UK is a free exhibition that opens at the Australian Centre for Photography (ACP) in Sydney on 30 June.
Drawing on the success of previous exhibitions, Hijacked I (Australia & USA) and Hijacked II (Australia & Germany), the new show features works from two geographically distant but historically connected communities. Utilising portraiture, digital collage, archival images, documentary snap shots, internet grabs and refined photographic tableaux, the 25 artists in this exhibition explore themes as diverse as curious weekend leisure pursuits, gender politics and displaced Indigenous culture.
Hijacked III is a Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) touring exhibition, which premiered simultaneously across two sites: PICA in Perth, Western Australia and QUAD Gallery in Derby, United Kingdom, from March to May 2012. A luscious full colour and 420 page Hijacked III compendium, has been published by Big City Press to accompany the exhibition.
The ACP will host an opening preview at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 29 June 2012 in its gallery at 257 Oxford Street, Paddington NSW 2021.
