The annual Head On Photo Festival will open in Paddington at an official launch event between 12 noon and 9:00 pm on Saturday, 6 May.
The festival runs from 5 to 28 May and includes more than 150 exhibitions plus a number of workshops, including a Business Basics seminar hosted by the AIPP and presented by Kate and Chris Buechner of Uber Photography studio, a Basic Lighting workshop covering studio and outdoor lighting, presented by Robert Catto and Ben Scott and a Street Photography workshop, presented by New York-based Israeli photographer Natan Dvir. This one is already sold out.
A special feature is a 5 day workshop over evening and weekend sessions with Guggenheim Fellow and National Geographic photographer, Maggie Steber, based upon her award-winning series The Secret Garden of Lily La Palma. The workshop will explore ‘the elusive mysterious nature of ideas and the creative process’ and is limited to 15 participants. Among the exhibitions are AIPP 2016 Australian Photographer of the Year, Lisa Saad’s photo series, Anonymous Man, which will be on display the Sydney Lower Town Hall Festival Hub. Landscape and travel photography exhibitions will include works by Astrid Verhoef, Pierre Radisic, and Ted Grambeau, while documentary photographers Stephen Dupont, Rennie Ellis, Sara Naomi Lewkowicz, Gerrit Fokkema, Michael Amendolia, Tom Williams, Brian Cassey, Amy Crawley and Jo Dunlop will have images in various sites in the main festival hubs at the Museum Of Sydney, Parliament House, GAFFA Gallery, Juniper Hall, Paddington Reservoir Gardens, UNSW Art & Design, Arts Hotel, Black Eye Gallery, Stanley Street Gallery and Tortoiseshell Gallery.
