Following the success of its X100 model, Fujifilm has released details of the X-Pro1, its first interchangeable-lens system camera.
The X-Pro1 has similar rangefinder styling to the X100 and a similar ‘prestige’ finish. However, it offers higher resolution, thanks to a custom-developed 16.3-megapixel APS-C-sized X-Trans CMOS sensor with primary colour filter and Fujifilm’s proprietary EXR processor technology. A new filter array uses a hexagonal pattern of colour filters to minimise colour aliasing and allow the anti-aliasing filter to be eliminated. This ensures superior resolution.
The X100’s hybrid viewfinder will be used in the X-Pro1 but the optical viewfinder has been designed to adjust to the lens mounted on the body. The flange-back distance (between the sensor and end of the lens) has been reduced to 17.7 mm and the lenses have large-diameter mounts. Details of the new camera can be found in the specifications, below.

Three Fujinon XF-R prime lenses will be released with the X-Pro1: 18mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4, 60mm f/2.4 macro (equivalent to 27mm, 53mm and 90mm in 35mm format, respectively). The new camera and lenses are expected to be available in Australia in March 2012. Pricing has still to be determined. For more information, visit http://www.fujifilm.com/.
UPDATE: Fujifilm Canada’s website has provided additional information on the X-Trans CMOS sensor in the X-Pro1. It also carries pictures of the front, back and top panels of the new camera.
