September 26, 2006: Fujifilm has released details of its next-generation DSLR, the FinePix S5 Pro, which is scheduled for release early next year.
Featuring Super CCD SR double pixel technology (6.17 million S-pixels and 6.17 million R-pixels), the new model will offer an expanded dynamic range. The re-designed sensor has an improved low-pass filter to reduce image noise and minimise moirø©. It will also come with Fujifilm’s new RP (Real Photo) Processor Pro for even more film-like images. Two cycles of noise reduction allow photographers to shoot at ISO sensitivities as high as ISO 3200 with less noise. Photographers can choose from six presets between 100% and 400% to control the camera’s expanded dynamic range. Three new variations have been added to the original film simulation mode (giving five modes in total) for improved skin tone reproduction.
Built-in Face Detection Technology can identify up to 10 faces in a scene immediately after each image is captured. Photographers can zoom in and check facial detail, whether eyes are open or closed and confirm focus and exposure on the S5 Pro’s 2.5-inch LCD monitor. Image files can be recorded in JPEG and raw formats with a RAW+JPEG (4,256 x 2,848 pixels, 3,024 x 2,016 pixels, 2,304 x 1,536 pixels) dual-save mode available.
The new camera appears to be based on the Nikon D200 body and offers compatibility with Nikon’s F-mount, including Nikkor AF-D/G and AF-S lenses. It boasts an 11-point AF system, aperture adjustments in 1/3, ½ or full step increments and shutter speeds from 30 seconds to 1/8,000 second, with flash synch at 1/250 second. The new camera is compatible with Nikon’s latest iTTL flash system. Three levels of custom function locking are provided, along with password protection.
Fujifilm has not yet released details of pricing or availability. We will provide this information when local data is available. Unfortunately we have been unable to source detailed product shots thus far but will post them here when they are provided.
