January 5, 2011: Fujifilm has set up a website providing details of its new X100 mirrorless camera, which is scheduled for release early in this year (the actual date has still to be confirmed).
The dedicated microsite at http://www.finepix-x100.com/x100 contains comprehensive illustrations showing multiple views of the camera body and explanations of the ‘hybrid’ viewfinder, focusing options and raw file capture. It also explains the reasons for choosing a fixed, 23mm f/2 prime lens (35mm focal length equivalent in 35mm format) with an aperture ring instead of a collapsible zoom lens.
Other key features of the camera include dial controls for ISO and exposure compensation and a shutter button that is threaded to accept a cable release. The rear panel has a fixed, 2.8-inch LCD monitor with 460,000-dot resolution and high brightness and contrast plus a wide viewing angle. One-touch switching between JPEG and raw file capture is provided, along with in-camera raw development.
Visitors to the microsite can read comments from other visitors and post their own on the First Impressions page. They can also sign up for email updates.
