August 28, 2009: Fujifilm has released its first long-zoom digital compact camera, the FinePix F70EXR, featuring a 10x wide angle optical zoom lens (27-270mm in 35mm format).
The 10-megapixel FinePix F70EXR comes with a 6.4 x 4.8mm Super CCD EXR imager that has been developed to respond similarly to a human eye. In normal bright lighting, the FinePix F70EXR can be switched to High Resolution (HR) mode to ensure detail is recorded across the subject brightness range. In bright, contrasty lighting, the sensor can switch to Wide Dynamic Range (DR) mode to balance highlights and shadows, while in low light conditions, the High Sensitivity and Low Noise (SN) mode ensures clean noise-free photographs.

A new EXR Auto mode automatically detects six different types of scenes – Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Backlit Portrait, Night and Night Portrait. The camera will optimise focus, colour balance, exposure, flash and sensitivity and select the HR, SN or DR mode, depending on lighting conditions. Additional EXR Priority modes enable the camera to engage the HR (Resolution Priority), SN (High ISO & Low Noise Priority) or DR (D-Range Priority) for consistent shooting using one sensor setting.
The FinePix F70EXR also includes Multi-Frame Technology, with selectable Pro Focus and Pro Light modes. The Pro Focus mode combines two or three burst shots to achieve a sharp image of the subject against a defocused background and foreground. The Pro Low Light mode captures bursts of four high sensitivity images using Pixel Fusion Technology and combines them to minimise image noise. The new camera also provides five film simulation modes, covering popular traditional Fujifilm emulsions (Provia, Velvia and Astia) and adding B&W and Sepia settings. Flash control has been improved to provide a better light balance with all subject types, including macro photography. The camera comes with a high contrast 230k-pixel 2.7-inch LCD monitor, a dual image stabilisation system, Face Detection 3.0 and Automatic Red-eye Removal. It will carry an RRP of $499.
