July 16, 2006: Fujifilm has released details of a new digicam, the FinePix S6500fd, which can prioritise exposure parameters to deliver good portrait shots.
Released as a new component in Fujifilm’s Real Photo Technology, Face Detection Technology can detect up to 10 human faces in a scene, regardless of their position, and adjust camera focus and exposure automatically so the faces are sharp, clear and exposed in the most flattering manner. The Face Detection Technology complements the i-Flash system component of Real Photo Technology, allowing the camera to adjust flash output intensity according to scene conditions. Fujifilm claims the end result of the two features working together will be portrait shots with more natural tones and finer detail. The photographer can disengage the Face Detection Technology for other types of pictures.

The FinePix S6500fd is equipped with a 7.6 x 5.7 mm, 6.3-megapixel Super CCD HR sensor and a Fujinon 10.7x optical zoom lens with a focal length equivalent to 28-300mm in 35mm format. It also includes a ‘Picture Stabilisation’ button that allows ISO settings to be boosted to 2000 at full resolution. This allows faster shutter speeds to be used, reducing the risk of camera shake. For normal shooting ISO settings between 100 and 3200 can be applied. The camera sports a 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD and is powered by four AA batteries.

Movie clips can be recorded at 30 frames/second in either VGA or QVGA resolution, with direct storage to an xD-Picture Card. For still images, both raw and JPEG formats are supported. Voice memos can also be recorded to the memory card and sound bites can be attached to still image files. The FinePix S6500fd is scheduled for worldwide release in September.
