May 2, 2007: Michaels Camera Video and Digital store in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, will hold a three-day photo technology expo featuring equipment and experts from all the big brands in photography.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Thursday 10 May and Saturday 12 May (inclusive) at the store on the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale Streets. The venue is Michaels’ recently expanded and refurbished first floor theatre space, which has been purpose-built to host special events and seminars. There will be daily seminars from Canon on how to operate its digital camera range using wireless remote control; from Nikon on operating off-camera flash units for sophisticated lighting effects; and from Apple, introducing attendees to its all-in-one Aperture software for professional photographers. There will also be technical experts on hand from more than 20 photographic brands to demonstrate equipment and answer visitors’ questions. Participants include Olympus, Casio, Pentax, Leica, Lowepro (outdoor camera bags), Sandisk, Samsung and Sigma.

Entry to the Expo is up the stairs beside the giant revolving Leica camera.

Michael’s world-class Camera Museum, right next to the Photo Tech Expo hall and featuring around 2000 cameras from the 1880s through to early digital models will be open and free to visit at the same time. Expo specials will be on offer for those who come along, and any customer who spends more than $200 in the store from May 2-20 will go in the draw to win one of 10 eight-hour Adobe Photoshop courses, or one of two four-hour video courses which Michaels holds regularly in its Media School.
