January 30, 2008: A free exhibition of photography will be held at Sydney’s Chifley Tower in February to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the death of ophthalmologist Professor Fred Hollows, who passed away on February 10, 1993. Fred Hollows was a passionate ophthalmologist who became known for his work helping restore the eyesight of countless thousands of people in developing countries and his passionate fight to improve Indigenous health here in Australia. He was awarded Australian of the year in 1990, Humanist of the year in 1991 and was recently named one of the top 100 most influential Australians by ‘The Bulletin’ magazine. Running from the 4 – 22nd Feb 2008, the exhibition features work from photographers including Michael Amendolia and Hugh Rutherford. The pictures capture moments of Fred’s life and his work, as well as showing the continuing work of The Fred Hollows Foundation. The exhibition can be seen on weekdays between 9.30 am and 6.00 pm and on Saturdays between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm. It is on show at the Chifley Tower, 2 Chifley Square, in the Sydney CBD.
