March 18, 2008: Tamron has released four new interchangeable lenses with mounts to suit the latest DSLR cameras from popular manufacturers.
The new AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II and AF 70-300mm F/4.5-6 Di lenses are designed for cameras with ‘APS-C sized’ sensors and feature built-in AF motors for Nikon’s D40 and D60 cameras. The lightweight and compact 18-250mm zoom lens (which was recently reviewed on this website) boasts a huge 13.9x zoom range and offers a minimum focusing distance of 45 cm throughout the zoom range. Its RRP is $799.

The new AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II, which is available with a Nikon mount to suit the D40 and D60 DSLR cameras.
The budget-priced AF 70-300mm F/4.5-6 Di lens (RRP $319) can also be used with Nikon’s full-frame DSLRs. It provides a 4.3x zoom magnification and has a minimum focusing distance of 1.5 metres in normal mode and 95 cm in macro mode. The optical design consists of 13 elements in nine groups. This lens is only 116.5 mm long with a diameter of 76.6 mm and a weight of 458 grams.

The new AF 70-300mm F/4.5-6 Di lens.
The SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] lens (Model A16) is now available with a Pentax mount, in addition to mounts for Canon, Nikon and Sony DSLRs. With an RRP of $699, this fast, standard zoom lens covers focal lengths equivalent to 26-78mm in 35mm format on cameras with 1.5x crop factor sensors. Use of XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass maintains a compact size while minimising optical aberrations. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 27 cm throughout the zoom range. It is 81.7 mm long and has a diameter of 74mm and weight of 434 grams.

The SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] lens (Model A16) is now available with a Pentax mount.
Featuring light weight, high performance and a large maximum aperture, the new SP AF70-200mm F/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro lens (RRP $1099) is designed for DSLR cameras with 35mm-sized (‘full frame’) image sensors. It will be launched with a Canon mount next month with Nikon, Pentax and Sony versions to follow. Offering a minimum focusing distance of 0.95m over the entire zoom range it provides a maximum macro magnification ratio of 1:3.1 at the 200mm focal length.
