August 26, 2010: Concurrent with the release of the EOS 60D, Canon will also add four new lenses to its line-up.
Due to go on sale in December is Canon’s first fisheye zoom lens, the EF8-15mm f/4L. The world’s first fisheye zoom lens that functions as a circular fisheye and full frame fisheye for full-frame sensor, interchangeable lens SLR/DSLR cameras, this lens replaces the EF15mm f/2.8 fisheye lens and features a newly-designed two-group zoom optical system. Designed for high-end enthusiast and professional photographers, the new lens features optimised lens element positioning and lens coatings to minimise ghosting and flare. Its short minimum focusing distance of 15 cm produces some interesting results.

Also designed for serious photographers is the robust EF70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens, which boasts the best optical performance for its specifications. It features optimised lens design and lens coatings to minimise flare and ghosting plus a special UD element to maintain contrast and reduce chromatic aberration. Four elements are now used in the focusing group to compensate for the longer extension and provide a minimum focusing distance of 1.2 metres.

The front element doesn’t rotate during focusing allowing use of angle-critical attachments. Operability and durability are improved with the inclusion of full-time manual focus and compatibility with an optional accessory tripod collar. The EF70-300mm lens has also been built for high durability and high rigidity as well as excellent dust- and moisture-proofing. The EF70- 300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM lens will be available from the end of October 2010.
New additions to the Canon line-up of fixed-focal length, super telephoto lenses, the EF300mm f/2.8L IS II USM and EF400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses both offer improved optical performance, closer focusing distances and significant weight reductions. The EF300mm f/2.8L IS II USM is 300g lighter than its predecessor, while the EF400mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens boasts a weight advantage of more than a kilogram over its predecessor.

framing shots. Improved stabilisation provides a shutter speed advantage of approximately four f-stops, allowing photographers to shoot in even lower light levels. The optimised lens element positioning and lens coating also minimise ghosting and flare.
Concurrent with the release of the new super telephoto lenses, Canon has also announced two new tele-extenders, which are successors to the EF1.4X II and EF2X II. The EF1.4X III and EF2X III extenders have been designed to match the new super-telephoto lenses and offer improved optical performance and reduced chromatic aberration. Optimised lens design and lens coatings minimise flare and ghosting.
