Concurrent with other camera announcements, Canon has released details of two new additions to the PowerShot line-up and two new Ixus digicams.

 

September 17, 2008: Concurrent with other camera announcements, Canon has released details of two new additions to the PowerShot line-up and two new Ixus digicams.
The PowerShot SX1 IS is the first compact digicam with a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor and sports a 20x optical zoom lens with a focal length range equivalent to 28-560mm, making it ideal for photographers who enjoy taking pictures of wildlife or sports. It can also record Full HD movies with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 30 frames/second. Built-in optical image stabilisation combines with motion detection and face detection technologies to ensure blur-free shots of people and events and in-camera red-eye correction is also provided.

The new PowerShot SX1 IS
The SX1 IS has a 230,000-dot 2.8-inch wide, vari-angle LCD screen that is ideal for all shooting situations. It features ‘zero cm’ macro shooting for spectacular close-ups and provides full creative control, along with iContrast control and servo AF for shooting moving subjects.
The PowerShot SX10 IS comes with a 6.16 x 4.62mm 10-megapixel CCD sensor and a similar 20x zoom lens to the SX1 IS. Its 2.5-inch, 230,000-dot, vari-angle LCD screen is ideal for high or low angle shooting. Shooting modes on both these models include Auto, P (Program), Tv (Shutter Priority), Av (Aperture Priority), M (Manual), C (Custom), Portrait, Landscape, Night Snapshot, Sports, Special Scene (Indoor, Night Scene, Sunset, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Aquarium, ISO 3200, Color Accent, Color Swap) and Movie and both models offer a variety of My Colours settings.

The 14.7 megapixel Ixus 980 IS boasts a 7.6 x 5.7 mm CCD sensor and 3.7x optical zoom lens (36-133mm in 35mm format). This model is the only Ixus in the series to offer manual control and has an array of features that includes Optical Image Stabilisation and a clear, 2.5-inch PureColour LCD display. Shooting modes include Auto, Quick, P (Program), M (Manual), Scene (Portrait, Landscape, Night Snapshot, Indoor, Sunset, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Aquarium, Underwater, ISO 3200, Digital MacroColor Accent, Color Swap, Stitch Assist) and Movie (Standard, Color Accent, Color Swap). The Ixus 980 IS measures 96.7 x 62.2 x 27.9mm and weighs only 160 grams.

The 10-megapixel Ixus 870 IS has a 6.16 x 4.62mm CCD sensor and 4x optical zoom lens. Available in silver or gold, it includes the same stabilisation , face detection and motion detection technologies as the Ixus 980 IS.

The PowerShot SX10 IS and the two Ixus models are scheduled for local release in November. The PowerShot SX1 IS will be available from December through Canon dealers nationally.
