The new Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 ASPH.  POWER O.I.S. (H-ES12060E) lens is the first Leica-branded f/2.8-4.0 lens Panasonic has introduced and the company plans to add 8-18mm (16-36mm, 35mm camera equivalent) wide zoom lens and 50-200mm (100-400mm, 35mm camera equivalent) telephoto zoom lens, which are currently under development, to its line-up. Designed with dust and splash resistance, this lens covers angles of view equivalent to 24-120mm in 35mm format and includes POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) stabilisation for steady shooting in dim lighting.

The optical design of this lens features 14 elements in 12 groups and includes four aspherical lenses and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses. Panasonic’s Nano Surface Coating technology minimises ghosting and flare. The lens is available in a stylish metallic black. It is scheduled for local release in March at an RRP of AU$1199.
Panasonic has also released details of four new Lumix G lenses, all of them boasting dust and splash-proof durability and POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) stabilisation. They are able to work with the Dual I.S. (Image Stabiliser), 5-axis Dual I.S., and the 5-axis Dual I.S. systems in Panasonic’s Lumix G cameras as well as being compatible with the LUMIX G sensor drive at 240fps to take advantage of the high-speed, high-precision Contrast AF. All four lenses feature an inner focus drive system that operates near-silently and have a micro-step drive system in the aperture control section that helps the camera to smoothly catch up to the brightness changes when zooming or panning. The AF tracking performance in zooming is also improved thanks to high-speed frame analysis for focus control.
