Whereas standard noise reduction functions in video cameras have limited accuracy because they compare the field A and field B that make up a frame, with different sets of odd and even scanning lines to compensate for noise, JVC’s new 3D NR technology compares field A to field A, and field B to field B across two frames. The scanning lines are, therefore, identical, allowing the signal-to-noise ratio to be improved by 2 dB while noise is reduced by about 30%. This eliminates flicker and improves colour reproduction, enhancing overall picture quality.
The new models also feature picture stabilisation plus a new Auto Illumi. Light, which uses energy-efficient LEDs to reduce battery drain. The light comes on automatically in low-light situations and switches off in bright environments to conserve battery power. Four of the five new models support still image capture to SD memory card but all come with USB 2.0 and i.LINK (IEEE 1394) interfaces for fast data transfer. They also support MPEG-1streaming video to a PC for video emails. ImageMixer 1.7 for USB/DV software is supplied to facilitate editing and video sharing.
The entry-level GR-D53AA model is expected to sell for $949 and captures still images to tape. The companion GR-D73AA (RRP: $1,099) has an SD card slot for still image capture to memory card. Both

these models feature 1/6-inch 800,000-pixel CCD sensors plus a 16x optical zoom lens with up to 700x Super Digital Zoom with Spline Interpolation. Both have 2.5-inch clear LCD monitors and colour viewfinders.
The GR-DX77AA (RRP: $1,299) Pocket Digital Video camera comes with a 1/6-inch 800,000-pixel CCD sensor and fold-away 2.5-inch LCD monitor. Still images are recorded on an SD/MMC card at VGA or 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. The GR-D230 (RRP: $1,499) has a ¼-inch CCD sensor with 1.33 megapixels and can produce still pictures in four image sizes: 1600×1200 pixels, 1280×960 pixels, 1024×768 pixels and 640×480-pixels. The 10x optical zoom lens is partnered by a 500x digital zoom function with spline interpolation to improve picture quality at high zoom ratios. This model features Power-Linked Operation where the camera automatically powers-on when the LCD monitor is opened or viewfinder is pulled out so users can start shooting immediately, and automatically powers-off when the LCD is closed or viewfinder is pushed back in to save battery drain.
