Panasonic has issued firmware updates for its DC-S1/S1R, GH5, GH5S, G9, GX85, GX850 and GX880 cameras.
Firmware version 1.3 for the Lumix S1 and S1R provides compatibility with CFexpress Type B cards, which provide roughly 300% higher transfer speeds conventional XQD cards. It also expands compatibility with Profoto wireless transmitters and improved compatibility with Sigma interchangeable lenses and the Sigma mount converter. The new firmware also allows assignment of functions to the lens Fn buttons when the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 70-200mm f/2.8 O.I.S. (S-E70200) lens is mounted. AF performance is expanded by enabling [AF+MF] to be used in AFC mode and continuous AF to be used on the live view screen in Creative Video mode or in other video recording modes when the video recording area is displayed. P/A/S/M exposure values can also be set manually in High- Speed Video mode. Users can also select the card slot to save the JPEG images developed by in-camera RAW processing, use a Fn button for checking the aperture effect and disable any physical operation by assigning the action to an Fn button.
The AF Assist Light is now included on the Focus tab of the Video menu and the luminance level of photos (including 6K/4K Photo and Post Focus images) can be preset when played back over HDMI output. Users will also be able to lock (with the [AF/AE LOCK] button) when ISO Auto is set in M mode. The S1 also gains corrections for issues associated with V-Log recording.

Firmware version 2.6 for the GH5, version 1.4 for the GH5S and version 2.0 for the G9 will come with the updated version 1.0.4 of Lumix Sync software, which supports wireless tethering for all three cameras plus expanded compatibility with Profoto wireless transmitters. The new firmware will also provide additional functionality and improvements with all models, including the addition of All [AWBw] to the WB mode, [Highlight Weighted] to the metering options, [Exposure Offset Adjust] to the Custom menu, [MODE1] to the Live View Boost function and a [0.5SEC] setting to the [Duration Time (photo)] functions in [Auto Review]. The AE can now be locked with the [AF/AE LOCK] button when ISO Auto is set in M mode.
The GH5S and G9 gain improved AF performance through the addition of [Animal Detect] to AF mode. Users can also switch the subject to focus on by pressing the joystick in [Face/Eye/Body/Animal Detect] mode. All [AF-ON: Near Shift] and [AF-ON: Far Shift] functions have been added and Focus Peaking is made available in MF and any AF modes. Continuous AF is now available on the live view screen in Creative Video mode or in other video recording modes when the video recording area is displayed.
The G9 also gains enhanced video functionality including support for 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording, 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output, luminance level adjustments for 10-bit video plus the addition of VFR (Variable Frame Rate) shooting (FHD 2-180 fps/4K 2-60 fps) and HDR video recording. [MODE2] has been added to High Resolution mode to reduce the motion blurring. V-Log L recording and Waveform Monitor (WFM) are available with the Upgrade Software Key DMW-SFU1 (sold separately).
