Panasonic has announced the release of firmware updates for its DC-GH5S, DC-G9, and DC-G100 mirrorless M4/3 cameras.

Firmware Version 2.0 for the GH5S will provide improved AF performance with a doubling of the speed of detection for eye and face detection and a 5x faster recognition cycle speed. These subjects can be detected even if they are around 50% smaller in the frame. AF Tracking and recognition performance has been improved with the addition of head recognition and Human/Animal recognition can be set ON or OFF when the AF mode is set to [1-Area]. The new firmware also adds support for RAW video data output over HDMI plus the ability to record Apple ProRes RAW on Atomos NINJA V devices as well as the ability to output 4K and Anamorphic (4:3) 3.7K 12-bit RAW video data over HDMI. A LUT (Lookup table) exclusively designed for RAW video recorded on NINJA V is available on the customer support website to make the same colour grading as V-Log/V-Gamut. It is easy to match colours between the footage recorded with Panasonic Varicam and EVA1 cameras to combine them.

Added video functions include a Red REC Frame Indicator function plus the ability to play back vertical videos vertically. Users can choose whether to add camera orientation information in the Vertical Position Info (Video) menu to prevent unintended image rotation in playback. The Video Guide Line] function has been upgraded with more options. The Power Save Mode is selectable while the camera is powered with an AC adaptor (DMW-AC10, sold separately).

Firmware Version 2.4 for the G9 improves AF performance with a 2x faster recognition cycle for human and animal eyes and face detection and 5x faster recognition cycle speed. These subjects can be detected even if they are around 50% smaller in the frame. AF Tracking and recognition performance has been improved with the addition of head recognition and Human/Animal recognition can be set ON or OFF. Added video functions are basically the same as for the GH5S and the new firmware will allow the camera to be recognised when it is connected to a PC via the USB power supply port.

Firmware version 1.2 for the G100 adds the ability to add or not to add camera orientation information in Vertical Position Info (Video) menu to prevent unintended image rotation in playback. The camera can be recognised when it is connected to a PC via the USB power supply port.

New firmware has also been announced for the H-E08018, H-X1025, H-ES12060, H-ES50200, H-RS100400, H-XA025, H-ES200, H-HSA12035, H-FS12060, H-HSA35100, H-FSA45200 and H-FSA100300 Lumix G and Leica DG lenses. It will add the ability for users to choose linear or non-linear control over the focus ring when lenses are used with the GH5M2. For Non-Linear, focus is shifted according to the rotation speed of the focus ring, and for Linear, focus is shifted according to the degree of rotation of the focus ring. Sensitivity (the amount of focus shift per rotational quantum) can be selected from 90 to 360 degrees in 30-degree increments.

The new firmware will be available to download from the LUMIX Global Customer Support website at 11:00 a.m. (AEST) on 9 June, 2021.
