Canon has issued firmware updates for seven DSLR cameras to address problems associated with the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM and EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lenses.

Firmware Version 1.1.7 for the EOS 6D corrects a situation in which the lens aberration correction  for the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens failed to operate even when the camera was set to ‘Enable’. Firmware Version 1.1.7 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.1.6. If the firmware is updated from version 1.1.6 or before, the following setting will be reset to default.: Menu > Custom Function> C.Fn II: Autofocus > AF Microadjustment> 1: All by same amount. For Windows users, the firmware can be downloaded from http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0400269902.html. Mac OS users can find their firmware at

Firmware Version 2.0.5 for the EOS 7D fixes a phenomenon in which the image files cannot be transferred using the FTP protocol via USB cable after the EOS 7D camera has established a wireless connection to the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E5 (A/B/C/D). Installing the firmware will automatically reset the date/time setting and lens peripheral illumination correction data registered to the camera. The Windows version is available at http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0400105502.html. The Mac OS firmware is at http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0400105602.html.

Firmware Version 1.1.2 for the EOS 70D applies a fix to enable  lens aberration correction to work with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lenses. The Windows version can be downloaded from http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0400270102.html and the Mac OS version from http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0400270202.html.

It adds support for the Wi-Fi adapter W-E1 and a setting to enable or disable automatic storage of the lens if it is extended out when a gear-driven STM lens is attached, and the power switch is turned to [OFF]. The lenses to which it applies are the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM, EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lenses. The EF-S 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM lens aberration data will not be added by performing this firmware update. The lens aberration correction data can be registered in EOS Utility Ver.3.4.30 or later.
