January 23, 2008: “Faux-Real” is the title of a new exhibition by photographer, Mel McVeigh, which opens in the BLKMRKT Gallery on the Gold Coast on 1 February.
Exploring people’s fascination with fame and how we defer to the famous as arbitrators

of style, fashion, taste and most importantly, success, the show presents seven images that represent ‘the Australian Dream’. Created by Mel McVeigh and inspired by couture, the fashions in the form of everyday items link the mundane with glamour. The staged and structured performances freeze these images in a moment of time; the manipulation and enhancement of the images in post-production elevates the subjects into a hyper-reality.

The exhibition is on view at the BLKMRKT Gallery on the Gold Coast (www.blkmrkt.com.au) from 1-20 February. It then moves to the Red Gallery in Melbourne (www.redgallery.com.au) from 26 March to 12 April.
