Opening on 21 October at the Stanley Street Gallery in Sydney this new exhibition combines recent work by photographers, Julie Sundberg and Zorica Purlija.

Although they have never collaborated or exhibited together, their previous work reveals an uncanny synchronicity. Both have turned from the portrait to landscape, creating layered reactions to place as if in a secret conversation.

Julie Sundberg’s ‘The River’ series was created entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic on her walks by the Cooks River (Goolay’yari). Experimenting with in-camera multiple exposures she constructed imaginary landscapes with different focus and viewpoints within the frame. Parallel to Sundberg’s series, Zorica Purlija’s ‘Fade Into You’ creates a landscape suggesting a place imbued with body, memory and life itself. Photographed at Crescent Head, a regular yearly  holiday destination for her family, the works are constructed by digitally layering landscape images with portraits of her daughter Yumi.

The exhibition can be viewed at 1/52-54 Stanley Street, Darlinghurst, NSW 2010 and is open Wednesday to Saturday between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. It will run until 21 November 2021.  For more information phone (02) 9368 1142 or visit
