The Portrait Conference which is held on 12 and 13 November in Melbourne’s Docklands, will provide two full days of instruction by eight of Australia’s leading portraitists and educators.
Organised by Robert Gatto and Peter Eastway, it will feature presentations by Jerry Ghionis, Joshua Holko, Lauren McGill, Jason Edwards, Melissa Ghionis, George Fetting, Rocco Ancora and the dynamic sister duo of Ashley Karakatsanis and Nikki Fox. The conference opens with a keynote presentation by Joshua Holko, who specialises in the Polar and sub-Polar regions. Open Forums will be held both days and Tuesday evening will see the event space transformed into four shooting areas and a printing studio. This additional event will cost $45 to attend and will include limited drinks and finger food.

Associated with The Portrait Conference is a competition with two categories. The Open category is for professionals who earn a full time or part-time income from photography and will have three sections: Portrait, Wedding and Newborn. The Amateur category is for anyone who earns less than $2000/year from photography (including via competition entries). It includes three sections: Portrait, Animal Portraits and Travel/Street Portraits. An entry fee of $25 applies for each entry, with every 5th entry free.
The competition starts online with a total prize pool of cash and prizes totalling $40,000 and the finalists will be automatically entered for free into an additional print competition that has an extra prize pool of $20,000.
