The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s 2005 collaboration with artist Bill Henson, Luminous, will tour the major Australian capital cities in August.

The 2019 return of Luminous features new imagery, an updated repertoire and guest vocals from indie Israeli-Australian singer-songwriter Lior.

Henson’s haunting, dramatic photography remains the visual focus. His night-time urban landscapes and moody explorations of sensuality – twilight zones between day and night, male and female, youth and adulthood, urban and rural settings – form the background to a meditative soundscape.

This revival includes Britten’s Corpus Christi Carol, R.E.M.’s I’ve Been High, Pēteris Vasks’ sublime violin concerto Distant Light, featuring Richard Tognetti as soloist, and music by Purcell and Janáček. It will also offer sublime vocals by Lior, performed alongside Henson’s arresting imagery projected on screen.
