Epson’s New Photo Scanner

March 1, 2006: The latest high-end photo scanner from Epson, the Perfection V700 Photo Scanner, offers class-leading performance, thanks to proprietary technologies.
The first scanner to feature a Dual Lens System, the Perfection V700 Photo has a high-resolution lens for reflective media that produces a resolution of 4800 dpi plus a Super Resolution lens that supports 6400 dpi optical film scanning resolution. Both lenses are matched with an Epson Matrix CCD sensor to give the Perfection V700 Photo output resolution that rivals the quality of many drum scanners plus a high optical density rating of 4.0 Dmax. For film scanning, the platen can accommodate 24 frames of 35mm strip film, 12 mounted 35mm slides, two strips of medium format film (6 x 20cm), two 4 x 5-inch films or one 8 x 10-inch transparency and film holders are included for all these formats.
The V700 also includes an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) hyper-processor that supports faster scanning speeds than scanners that rely on the PC’s internal processor and memory. It takes just 91 seconds to complete a high resolution negative film scan at 6400 dpi. Bundled software includes SilverFast SE 6, a powerful pre-scan editing tool, Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, ABBYY Fine Reader 6 OCR software and a new version of Epson Creativity suite and Epson Scan which includes Digital ICE technology providing simple solutions to pre scan editing.
A blue LED runs down the centre of the lid showing the position of the lens carriage. USB and Firewire (IEEE 1394) connections are provided for PC or Mac. The Perfection V700 Photo supports 48 Bit processing to provide more colours plus a higher rate of tonal gradation. It is also energy-efficient and operates at low noise levels.
