September 7, 2009: This month sees the release of Epson’s new Perfection V600 Photo scanner, which is designed to provide professional-quality, high-resolution scans of positive and negative film, photos and documents.
Featuring an the integrated matrix CCD scan head and micro lens technology, the V600 is capable of scanning at up to 6400 x 9600dpi optical resolution with a 48 bit colour depth. It can scan an A4 page at 300 dpi in as little as 6 seconds. The V600 can also produce scans with an optical density of 3.4 (D-max), yielding a full range of tonal detail from shadow to highlight areas in photo scans. A fully integrated transparency unit (TPU) and versatile film holder cater for a wide variety of film formats, including 12 frames of 35mm filmstrip, 4 frames of 35mm mounted slides and medium format up to 6 x 22cms.

The Perfection V600 Photo is equipped with Digital ICE technology that uses both hardware and software during the scanning process to detect and remove dust and scratch marks on both film and photo scans. It also comes with Epson Scan software, which includes advanced colour restoration. This software can be used either as a TWAIN driver within programs such as Adobe Photoshop, or as a full functional standalone program It offers four pre-set modes – Full Auto, Home, Office and Professional – to meet the needs of home users all the way through to professional users.
The software bundle supplied with the V600 also includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, a powerful and flexible photo editing application, plus and ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint, which converts scanned documents into editable formats, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. It can also create searchable PDF files.
