September 12, 2007: Epson has released an energy-efficient, affordable photo scanner that is designed for photographers with old films and slides to digitise.
The new Perfection V500 Photo scanner boasts ReadyScan LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology, which was developed for professional photo scanning. The white light LED technology is environmentally friendly, as the ReadyScan LEDs contain no mercury, have low power consumption and heat dissipation and virtually no warm up time. The new scanner’s scanning head combines a 6400dpi Matrix CCD and on-chip Micro Lens Technology. This ensures an optimum amount of light is captured during the scanning process, improving image reproduction.
The new scanner has 12 lines of photosites with micro lenses compared with six lines on previous models, giving it a significant speed advantage. An optical density of 3.4 Dmax allows the Perfection V500 Photo to record a wide range of tones and deliver a high level of detail in both highlight and shadow areas. Digital ICE (Image Correction and Enhancement) processing is built into the Perfection V500 Photo, along with Digital ICE Lite. These powerful tools use both hardware and software to detect and remove dust, scratch marks and finger prints from colour film and slide scans without softening, blurring or altering any of the image’s underlying details or composition.
As well as offering flatbed scanning for prints and artworks, the V500 Photo includes an integrated Transparency Unit (TPU) and two film holders that can hold 12 frames of 35mm strip film, 4 frames of 35mm mounted slides or 1 frame of 6×12 cm medium format film. Document scanning is also supported. A USB 2.0 interface provides compatibility with Windows and Mac computers. Bundled software includes the newest version of Epson Scan 3.2, which restores faded photos and automatically corrects any defects: Adobe Photoshop Elements and ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint Plus, which converts scanned documents into editable text.
The Epson Perfection V500 has an RRP of $499 and is available now through Epson dealers. For product details ,visit www.epson.com.au. Phone 1300 131 928 for stockist information.
