November 13, 2008: Epson Australia has released the Perfection V30, an energy efficient, affordable home photo scanner featuring Epson’s ReadyScan LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology.
Featuring a two-way design that enables users to position the scanner anywhere on a desktop for easy portrait or landscape scanning, the V30 has an extendable lid that can accommodate large documents and books up to 25mm thick. The V30 uses an array of mercury-free LEDs as its light source instead of the commonly used cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL). LEDs have lower operating power consumption and less heat output so users can minimise energy costs and make a contribution to greenhouse gas reduction. LEDs also warm up ready for use almost immediately, making the V30 more convenient to use for small scanning jobs.
The built in, 12-line matrix CCD in the scanner head uses On-Chip Microlens technology to increase light sensitivity without also increasing image noise. This enables the V30 to scan at up to 4800 dpi optical resolution with 48-bit colour depth and produce high-quality scans in as little as 16 seconds. Four customisable buttons allow easy one-touch scanning. As default, these buttons are set to start, copy, scan to email and scan to PDF but they can be assigned to four pre-defined and 10 custom jobs using Epson Event Manager software.
The Perfection V30 comes with the latest Epson Scan 3.5 software, which can be used either as a TWAIN driver within programs such as Adobe Photoshop, or as a standalone program to manage the scanner. It has four pre-set modes – Full Auto, Home, Office and Professional – to meet the needs of home users all the way through to professional users. Bundled software includes Arcsoft Media Impression and ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint, which converts scanned documents into editable formats and creates searchable PDFs.
The Perfection V30 has USB2.0 connectivity and is compatible with Windows (2000 Professional, XP and Vista) and Mac (OSX 10.3.9 or later). It is available now at an RRP of $149 through Dick Smith Electronics, Powerhouse Technology, and Tandy Stores. For product information, visit www.epson.com.au.
