September 26, 2006: The coming range of Epson printers will feature new Claria Photographic inks and built-in PhotoEnhance software that corrects common shooting problems.
Designed to produce photo prints with high definition, clarity, excellent colour reproduction and superb glossiness, the new Claria Photographic inks can resist fading for up to 200 years (for prints stored in albums). Claria inks are dye-based and they will be supplied in individual ink tanks for all printers except the PictureMate series (where inks are supplied in a single cartridge).
Also built into the latest consumer printers is Epson’s new PhotoEnhance automatic image correction software. Promoted as “the photo expert inside the printer”, PhotoEnhance analyses shooting data recorded by the camera and uses a face detection algorithm to identify shots that include people’s faces. These are optimised to improve skin tones; shadows are brightened and colour casts removed. Where scenes are detected, PhotoEnhance automatically adjusts colours to reproduce them as naturally as possible.
