Several months after releasing it in Europe and North America, Epson has today officially introduced the SureColor SC-P600 desktop printer to the local market.

Originally unveiled at Photokina in Septembr 2014, the SC-P600 is designed for serious photo enthusiasts and semi-professional photographers and can produce photo prints in sizes up to A3+. It uses Epson’s new UltraChrome HD with Vivid Magenta ink set, with nine cartridges, including three levels of black ink plus separate black inks for glossy and matte papers. Automatic switching between Photo black and Matte  Black inks is supported and the printer driver includes Epson’s Advanced Black-and-White

Photo Mode, which includes four presets ““ neutral, warm, cool and sepia. Epson claims the SC-P600 can deliver  the highest black density of any pigment ink printer plus the highest (2.84) DMmax seen to date on a printer of this calibre.

Inks for the SC-P600 are supplied in ‘high-capacity’ cartridges, which hold 25.9 ml of ink (the same as for the R3000, the previous flagship model). Designed for medium-volume production, the SureColor SC-P600 can output an A3+ print in just 153 seconds. Twin paper paths enable A3+ printing on a wide variety of photo and fine art papers, canvas and thick media. An improved design allows precise front feeding of fine art paper. Roll-paper capability is provided for printing panoramic images.   CD/DVD surface printing is also available for inkjet printable 8cm and 12cm CDRs and DVDs.

The SC-P600 also provides networked printing with built-in Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11 b/g/n) and wired Ethernet (10BASET/100BASE TX) plus Hi-Speed USB connectivity and support for Epson Connect and Google Cloud Print. The user interface is a 2.7-inch colour touch screen with a keypad and gesture navigation. It allows users to check the printer status, ink levels and perform routine maintenance tasks with a swipe of the screen.

We hope to review this printer soon and will use the opportunity to check the capacity of the cartridges supplied with the printer, since some overseas reviews we’ve read suggest ‘starter’ (reduced capacity) cartridges are provided while others claim a full set of 25.9 ml cartridges is supplied.

According to Epson’s local website, the SureColor SC-P600 has an RRP of AU$1499. Cartridges are priced at AU$47.99 (RRP).  For more information. visit  http://www.epson.com.au/products/inkjet/SC-P600.asp?groupid=2.
