September 15, 2009: Epson has released details of two new large format printers, which will provide high productivity and image quality for architects, engineers, construction companies, spatial data analysts and retailers.
Due for release in November, the Stylus Pro 7700 (24 inch wide) and Stylus Pro 9700 (44 inch wide) printers feature the MicroPiezo TFP (Thin Film Piezo) print head, which has 10 channels supporting a new five-ink configuration. This advanced print head has 720 nozzles per colour, enabling the Pro 7700 and Pro 9700 to produce an A1 size print in just 1.33 minutes at 720x720dpi quality mode.

Both models use Epson UltraChrome HDR Ink, a high density, resin coated pigment ink formulation with a wide colour gamut and excellent water and fade resistance. The ink set includes Cyan, Vivid Magenta, Yellow and both Photo and Matte Black, which are available individually in 150, 350 or 700 ml capacities. Automatic switching between photo and matte black inks is supported.

A new Auto Nozzle Check System uses advanced ink droplet detection technology, taking less than 15 seconds to run. Since it consumes no media and only a few drops of ink, it can be run before every job or periodically, giving improved reliability and a reduction in media costs. Other improvements include a colour LCD panel for easier selection of commands; more convenient paper handling with no need for spindles to hold rolls; and the ability to quickly and easily switch from normal tension to high tension when using thinner media. New layout manager software assists users in maximising paper use with nesting capabilities and easy layout tools for a range of large format printing applications.
