May 9, 2011: A week after the announcement was made in overseas markets, Epson Australia has released details of its latest A3+ printer, the Stylus Photo R2000.
The new model features Epson’s next-generation pigment printing technology and uses larger capacity cartridges, each containing 17 ml of ink (compared with 11.4ml in the R2880). The ink set is Epson’s eight-colour UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 pigment ink set, which delivers prints that are highly water, smudge and fade-resistant. Red and orange inks provide bold colours and smooth, natural skin tones in addition to vibrant greens and intense blues. An enhanced gloss optimiser delivers a uniform gloss finish. Separate channels are provided for Matte and Photo Black inks, eliminating the need for ink switching.

Other advanced features include the MicroPiezo print head with AMC (Advanced Meniscus Control). The eight-channel, high-precision print head produces a maximum resolution of 5670 x 1440 optimised dpi and variable-sized droplets as small as 1.5 picolitre. To reduce maintenance and increase reliability the print head also incorporates an ink-repellent coating. The R2000 also offers class-leading connectivity options that enable users to print from an office or studio via 100 Mbit Ethernet for wired networking, Wi-Fi 802.11n wireless technology and Hi-Speed USB 2.0. A main top-loading, high-capacity auto-sheet feeder supports photographic and matte papers. A rear, single-sheet, fine art paper path handles heavier fine art and specialty media. Included roll paper support allows for panoramas up to 44-inches long, even on canvas, and a front, straight-through path handles media up to 1.3 mm thick, and direct CD/DVD printing.
The Epson Stylus Photo R2000 will be available in Australia next month at an RRP of $1099. For our overseas readers, this printer has an RRP of just under 510 Euros, 420 GP pounds or US$499.
