Canon has officially discontinued production of the EOS 5D Mark II, one of the most popular and influential DSLRs ever made.

Announced just before Photokina in 2008, the 5D II was the first DSLR with full High Definition video capability and produced high-quality footage with superior levels of detail and realism. It set a trend for other manufacturers to follow and led to wide-scale adoption of DSLRs for movie production. However, after more than four years on sale, the plug on production has been pulled. A check of Canon’s ‘Old Products’ listing (http://cweb.canon.jp/eos/lineup/old-products/index.html) shows the camera has been added.
