Entries have opened for this year’s Head On Awards, which will this year be judged in four categories.

The 10th Anniversary Head On Portrait Prize is open to residents of Australia only. As a Head On first, the exhibition is expected to travel to the Auckland Photography Festival, the Pingyao International  Photography Festival (China) and finally to Photoville (New York City) for the international debut of the Head On Portrait Prize. 40 finalists will be exhibited during the festival and prizes will be awarded for the three best images.
The  remaining awards are open internationally. The   Head On Landscape Prize covers ‘large vista’ images of the natural environment, urban or industrial settings…or even a ‘scape’ not previously considered. Finalists will be exhibited at the Parliament House of NSW  and an extra prize will be awarded to an image shot in NSW.

The Head On Multimedia Prize  is a new addition for 2014 and encompasses short pieces composed of combinations of visual art, sound art, moving images or other media. This can be anything which incorporates photography and sits ‘outside the boxes’ of stills photography and short films. Finalists will be exhibited at Brenda May Gallery and prizes will be awarded for the three best Fine Art and Documentary Multimedia pieces.

The Head On Mobile Prize is awarded to photographs taken with camera-phones. Finalists will be exhibited during the festival and prizes will be awarded to the three best images.

All work is judged anonymously and selection is based on the power of the work alone rather than the celebrity of the subject or its creator. The total prize pool is valued at AU $50,000. The deadline for entries is Sunday, 9 March 2014 at 11:00 pm ESDT. Details are available at https://headon.com.au/.

Head On Photo Festival, the largest photo festival in Australia, will be back for its fifth consecutive season in Sydney with exhibitions, events, education and public debate from 12 May ““ 8 June 2014.
