October 16, 2006: Elinchrom has released a new ‘Skyport’ flash trigger system that provides both flash triggering and the wireless remote control of all RX flash unit functions for studio lighting systems.
The EL-Skyport modules consist of the EL-Skyport Transmitter 19351, which attaches to the camera and controls basic functions of an Elinchrom RX unit to which a transceiver unit is attached. The transceiver units attach to the individual flash units. Huge technology advances have allowed the modules to be as small as 18-30g each (except for the Receiver Universal which weighs 51g due to its re-chargeable battery). Eight frequency channels and four workgroups are provided for multiple flash unit control and the system boasts a high level of security. Hand-held and PC-based control of all RX unit functions are provided.
The Transmitter synchronises remote flash units when each is fitted with either a “Universal” (fitting all flash brands) or the RX Transceiver (fitting Style RX, Digital RX and Ranger RX units). The RX Transceiver also provides control over the power and modelling lamp of all Elinchrom RX flash units, directly from the Skyport Transmitter. Features include:
– Plus and minus buttons to change flash power settings of RX units and to switch
– Modelling lamp on/off, without using a computer
– Action freezing sync speed of up to 1/1000 s
– Studio operating range is about 50 m and 120 m outdoors
– Includes Hotshoe with Sync socket
– Test button for manual flash trigger
– Interference free operation with 40 bit security
– Switch to select 8 frequency channels (e.g. between separate working areas)
– Switch to select 4 Workgroups (adjusting and synchronising individual units or groups)
– Long life Lithium battery and providing 50000 flashes or approximately 3-months lifetime
– The “All” switch controls all units in Workgroup 1-4
– The moveable antenna optimises reception and working distance

The EL-Skyport modules are available as single items or in complete economical set configurations. The system is supported by EL-Skyport software v. 2.0.1 for Windows and Mac operating systems, which provides digital studio management for up to 64 RX flash units.
