November 18, 2008: DxO Labs has unveiled a new website that provides objective metrics for key aspects of sensor performance for a variety of cameras, measured directly on raw image files.
Available as a free online resource, dxomark.com makes it possible for the first time to assess the intrinsic quality of a camera before the impact of any raw file conversion. The site provides detailed measurements in graph form of all the relevant characteristics of a sensor, including:
– actual ISO sensitivity (which generally differs from the value reported by the camera);
– signal-to-noise ratio;
– dynamic and tonal ranges and
– color depth and sensitivity.
Currently the metrics for 50 popular cameras ø¢â‚¬” DSLRs and high-end compact digicams that support raw file capture ø¢â‚¬” are available online and the site will be updated on a regular basis as new cameras are released.
