May 29, 2008: The Australian War Memorial is asking for public help to find the identity of an unknown soldier from the First World War whose photograph features in the Memorial’s latest exhibition Icon & Archive.

The photograph is a studio portrait, taken in Sydney, of a First World War soldier in uniform and slouch hat. The Memorial is endeavoring to identify all the soldiers in photographs held in the Memorial’s collection to learn more about Australian’s experiences at war. Icon & Archive is open to the public from Friday 6 June until 12 October and features iconic photography from the First and Second World Wars. Entry is free.
