Leading drones manufacturer, DJI, has released the Osmo Action, its first action camera, which comes with advanced image stabilisation and 4K 60p/50p recording capabilities.

Constructed to handle extreme conditions, the Osmo Action is dustproof, shockproof, waterproof and has the ability to operate in sub-freezing temperatures. Its 1/2.3-inch (6.17 x 4.55 mm) sensor records 12-megapixel photos and 4K video at up to 60fps with a bit rate of 100Mbps. The three-glass aspherical lens design records low-distortion content with reduced warping. The front element is finished with two layers of anti-fingerprint coating plus an anti-reflective coating to reduce unwanted flare. The Osmo Action camera has colour screens on both the front and back panels; the 1.4-inch front screen being suitable for vlogging and selfies, while the 2.25-inch rear touchscreen employs a water and fingerprint repelling coating.
Osmo Action’s interactive user interface, Action OS, combines a streamlined and functional design with flexible operation. Power on, initiate recording, and rotate through the video and photo capture modes are controlled with three dedicated buttons while a SnapShot function allows Osmo Action to turn on and begin recording in under two seconds by pressing the shutter button once. DJI’s RockSteady Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) technology ensures smooth, stable, high-quality video, including when recording 4K 60/50fps. High Dynamic Range (HDR) video can be recorded in 4K 30/25fps, delivering an additional three stops of dynamic range with natural transitions between light and dark areas and recording details that can be lost in complex lighting conditions. Slow-motion and time-lapse recording are also supported, along with custom exposure settings that allow up to 120 seconds of exposure for capturing the night sky.
Osmo Action has a removable battery with a run time of 93 minutes recording at 4K 30/25fps with RockSteady enabled, and 135 minutes recording at 1080p 30/25fps without RockSteady. Dual microphones let users take advantage of Osmo Action’s Voice Control, and a speaker ensures high playback quality. The DJI Mimo mobile app enables the camera to be connected to mobile devices via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for added functionality.
Included with the Osmo Action, the Camera Frame Kit offers a universal mount for additional accessories and a window for the LED indicator to show camera status in real time while protecting the device. Add-on accessories include a variety of adhesive mounts, a waterproof case that enables the camera to be used at depths of up to 60 metres, a 3.5 mm adapter for external microphones, an Extension Rod with a rotatable phone holder and a ¼-inch screw adapter, a floating handle, filters and a charging hub that accepts up to three batteries simultaneously and can recharge them in less than 130 minutes.
DJI Osmo Action retails for AU$499 and is available for purchase now at store.dji.com. It will go on sale at DJI authorised dealers in June. Click here for more information.
