June 2, 2006: Expect to see digital printing kiosks in areas like shopping centres, hospitals and train stations – even office foyers – with the launch of the new pxidigital franchise. Touted as the next generation in digital image processing pxidigital kiosks are being introduced to Australia by Mr Barrie Harrop, CEO of Velocitimage, and the Managing Director of Franchise Point, Mr Michael Anthony. They have just completed 14 months of extensive retail testing of the pxidigital kiosk system. Pxidigital has been developed with supply partners Sony Corporation Japan, IBM, Neo Products, Aura Digital Communications and de Masi Jones for the kiosk design and graphics. It combines high quality hardware, software, consumables and servicing. Sony will provide its latest print engines which are the fastest in the world and capable of printing a standard picture in four seconds. Sony has also developed proprietary paper technology, which offers superior quality and durability. Velocitimage, through its partners, can service each state within Australia as well as major international global markets. Mr Harrop said pxidigital was more than a photo kiosk; the self-contained unit was expandable into a complete ‘Digital Media hub’, with photo printing, editing and storing, as well as online sharing capabilities. “It accepts all forms of digital media and is also compatible with mobile phones and Blue Tooth devices. With internet access, pxidigital also has the ability to download MP3 and MP4 in the future,” he said. The kiosk is easy to operate and has built-in features such as a CD dispenser and CD burner, as well as a barcode reader which allows customers to take advantage of marketing initiatives. Payment options include debit and credit cards, reward cards and pre-paid cards.
Franchisees pay $50,000 (or $30,000 for early adopters) to join pxidigital. Once a site has been selected, machines are installed. Mr Harrop said franchisees would be provided 24/7 online maintenance back-up from Getronics/NeoProducts, access to a website, paper alert messaging service, global marketing programs, and R&D product extensions and training.
