September 28, 2006: Carl Zeiss Sports Optics and DxO Labs have joined forces to develop a special digiscoping camera for wildlife photographers.
Digiscoping, which involves fitting a camera to the eyepiece of a spotting scopes, has become popular (particularly in Europe) in recent years. The new DC 4 camera will be powered by the DxO Labs Image Signal Processing (ISP) technology to ensure sharp detail with minimal image noise. It runs on an embedded Texas Instruments OMAP DM 320 processor. Features of the DC 4 camera are listed as follows:
– Large (7.18 x 5.32 mm) CCD sensor with 4-megapixel resolution.
– Innovative signal processing with DxO image software for photos that can be magnified to A4 size.
– Good light intensity and long focal length capabilities.
– Large 2.0-inch display to monitor images while taking a picture or for review.
– Non-contact and vibration-free shutter triggering via remote control.
– Adjustments for ISO, white balance and many other camera parameters via remote control.
– Burst shooting for up to five shots.
– SD card to store images.
– JPEG and TIFF file options.
– USB and Video ports to connect to a computer or TV.
– Powered by standard AAA batteries, rechargeable batteries or mains supply.
The DC 4 offers 40x magnification when used with the Diascope 85 T* FL eyepiece or 30 x with the Diascope 65 T* FL. This gives a field of view equivalent to 1120 to 1460mm in 35mm format.
