Casio Unveils 10.1 Megapixel Digicam

April 28, 2006: Casio has released details of its new Exilim EX-Z1000, the highest-resolution compact digicam currently available.
Featuring a 10.1-megapixel CCD imager that measures 7.18 x 6.32mm, the EX-Z1000 sports a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.8-inch, Wide and Bright LCD display. This high-resolution, 230,400-pixel LCD displays images and data with clarity and fine detail, even in bright outdoor conditions and its vertical stripe pixel array makes menus easy to read. The right edge of the display shows operational icons, enabling easy operation and quick review of settings and a dedicated Display button allows users to change display format quickly and easily.
Features of the EX-Z1000 include a new Zoom Continuous Shutter mode allows the user to compare a wide angle and a telephoto shot in the same display and to take both shots simultaneously with only one press of the shutter button. A Quick Zoom feature allows users to instantly switch to a preset zoom ratio with one touch of a button. There’s also a Revive Shot setting that refreshes the faded colours of old photos when they are copied and 37 BestShot scene presets. Anti Shake DSP has been included to reduce blurring due to unsteady hands or moving subjects and a Rapid Flash function allows up to three shots to be captured per second.
The EX-Z1000 comes with a Super Life Battery that allows up to 360 shots to be recorded with the LCD set to standard brightness. Movie clips can be capture in VGA or QVGA resolution, with the frame rate for VGA at 25 fps. The camera is supplied with a multi-function cradle that charges the battery and connects to a PC for downloading images or to audiovisual equipment for slideshow playback. USB 2.0 Full Speed connection is provided. The camera measures 92 x 58.4 x 22.4mm and weighs only 139 grams. It is scheduled for local release this month at an RRP of $849.
