January 25, 2006: Perfect-Pixs is a new set of calibration cards that allows digital photographers to improve exposure accuracy, calibrate their monitors and print-making workflows and minimise the number of poor-quality prints they make. Developed by Canadian photographer, print maker and imaging educator, Chris Wade, it represents an affordable calibration solution for a wide range of imaging tasks. The Perfect-Pixs Card Kit, which sells for $49.95 CDN (approx A$57.70 plus $6.90 postage) consists of three cards: a Zone Card with 11 calibrated shades of grey from 100% black to 100% white in 10% steps; a Patches Card with black, white and grey patches plus red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow patches plus 11 graduated steps from 100% to 0% for each of these colours; and a Custom White Balance card. Together, these cards provide digital photographers with known colour, grey and white references that allow them to analyse differences between their captured image, the image displayed on a computer monitor and the resulting prints. They also make it easier to adjust digital images in most of the popular photo editing programs. Instructions for using each card and related support files are provided on the accompanying CD. Perfect-Pixs cards are printed on rigid, 1mm thick, precise matte card and designed for years of use without fading or colour shifting. The Patches and Custom White Balance cards measure 254 x 203 mm, while the Zone card is 254 x 140 mm, making them small enough to pack in a camera bag. The supplied instructions give full details on how each card can be used. For more information, visit www.pixelplace.ca; click on the link to Perfect-Pixs. A review of the cards is being prepared for issue 28 of Photo Review and will be posted on our website in March. |
