October 4, 2007: Canon is calling for entries in the inaugural Photo5 contest, which challenges photographers to create extraordinary images with one of five ordinary, everyday objects.
From 5 October, the first 2500 Australian photographers who register will receive the Photo5 pack containing the five items ø¢â‚¬” a box, a balloon, a piece of chalk, a roll of dots and piece of cellophane. Using one of these objects, participants must conceive, create and capture their most creative photo and upload it to the online competition gallery. Everyone who takes up this challenge will be in the running to share in a prize pool valued at $25,000.
Canon has created a competition website which will host the entries in an online gallery and offer useful creativity tips (www.canon.com.au/photo5). An online community will judge the entries together with an expert panel. Each entry in the five categories will contain the same object, so the winning images should demonstrate originality, skill, artfulness and creativity. The online Photo5 community will choose the winners in each category via the online voting forum. Finalists in each category will be decided by a panel that includes award-winning photographers Montalbetti+Campbell, Leo Burnett Creative Director Mark Collis and Marketing Manager Canon Australia, Stuart Poignand.

The competition commences October 5, 2007 and is based on skill. Registration closes October 25. The winners will be announced on December 13, 2007. For details of Canon products, visit www.canon.com.au or phone at 1800 021 167.
